And The Winner is…

Daily PlannerKitchen FolioI’m so excited to announce the winner of my very first contest on my site, the Back to School Contest. The ladies over at Momagenda were generous enough to donate a Momagenda planner and a Kitchen folio to our very lucky winner. I wanted to make the announcement fun and I saw where Kelly’s guest this week on WAHMTalk Radio, who was Heather Ledeboer of Mom4Life, who announces the contests on her blog via video, but since I don’t have a digital camcorder, yet, I will use audio. Sooooo…just click play and hear who won. Then if you’re the winner email me at alyssaavant @ gmail.com without the spaces of course, with your snail mail address so that I can get the ladies at Momagenda to mail out your prize! Thanks to all who entered and be checking back here soon for another Life from my Laptop Contest!  A special thanks to my friends, Tricia and Haylee for helping me out!

Thursday Linkage

I was tagged by Lara, but ALL are invited to join in the fun ;)

Just copy paste THIS and everything below up until my Five links:

I thought it would be cool to have a meme where we post links. We can post up to five. Then we tell five more people to share their links. If we all share who tagged us, our links are sure to be seen! :)

They can be business links, favorite sites, affiliate links, whatever you want…

There are Five Rules:

1. MUST be clean. No R rated sites.
2. Only FIVE links.
3. MUST tell 5 people.
4. A link back to the person who tagged you ;)
5. Lara’s Place is the meme originator. ;) (an active link is appreciated)

Here are my links:

1. Mom Masterminds: I love this mentoring group and it’s owner Kelly McCausey has been such a help and encouragement to me. If you’re in business as a Work at Home Mom (WAHM) you need to be apart of this valuable group.

2. The Preacher’s Wife: A blog by none other than a “preacher’s wife”. Yes, her hubby is a Baptist minister but what attracted me to this site more than that is her study I am… so you don’ t have to be, online bible study. I started today. You can too.

3. Beauty by Design Ministries: Yes I gave my own ministry some much needed link love. Check out my ministry to girls of all ages and their moms.

4. Mom’s Radio Network: I am a part of this awesome group of online radio show and podcast owners. There are tons of great shows over there to listen to.

5. Shrink Pictures: You know those tiny pictures you put of yourself on forums, etc. I always wanted to know how to shrink my pictures to make them small enough for that. I finally found this site and it answered my problem.

This time I tag:

15 Things I do to save money meme

Carrie over at Natural Moms Talk Radio tagged me to post the 15 things I do to save money.  She must know I have a tight budget, and I am frugal, after all people say my daddy is “so tight he squeaks”, so it must run in the family gene pool.  Anyway here goes:

1.  I menu plan.   I have done this since my hubby and I married.  Weekly I make a grocery list and a menu usually based on what’s already in the pantry, sometimes based on the “empty” pantry. Such is the case today and it is “meal planning” day here at my house.  This saves me from buying everything in sight at the grocery store and also saves me from “eating out” too often.

2.  I write out a monthly budget.  This I have also done for almost my entire 7 years of marriage.  I learned budgeting from Financial Guru Dave Ramsey.   I called Dave’s radio show as a newly wed and he sent me his book “Financial Peace” as a late wedding gift.  Yes, for free! I was hooked ever since. I have also been trying to do his “get out of debt plan” for quite some time but I am failing miserably.

3.   I too like Carrie use hand-me-downs.  I have several friends who have kids older than my kids who we get hand-me-downs from, the clothes are normally barely used and not very worn.  It is nice because my friends have good taste.

4.  I use Paperback Swap.  I recently found this book swapping website and it has saved me a ton on buying books already!  I am a book-aholic.

5.  I don’t allow my son to eat lunch at school.  He goes half days and could stay an extra 45 min for lunch but I figure I can feed him and I won’t have to pay the school lunch fee.

6.  I also don’t pay late fees. I pay my bills on time.

7.   We don’t go out for entertainment. Not that there is any place to go here, but hubby and I don’t go to the movies or shows or anything.

8.   I run all my errands on one day.  We live pretty far from a larger town where grocery stores and stuff are. No we don’t have a grocery store where I live. The closest one is 10 minutes away, so I go grocery shopping/errand running one day a week to save on gas money.

9.  I plan ahead.  Yes planning ahead for things can save you tons of cash!  Plan ahead for large purchases, Christmas gifts, vacation.

10.   I buy off brand.  Yes, sometimes this is safe, but I don’t recommend it for everything.

11.  I rarely clothes shop.  Another one of those things I don’t do often because there is no place to shop here, but oh well it does save me money.

12.  I stay at home! Yep, I work from home and mainly I only get out for church,to take my son to school,  to visit family and for a grocery store/errand run.  Staying home saves gas money, eating out money, and more I’m sure.

13.  I pay my bills online.  The ones that I can, this saves a stamp!

14.   I shop online.  Shopping online saves the gas money to get me there and I often get free shipping!  Gotta love that!

15.  Bargain shop!  I love a good bargain.

I’m in love…

With this website.. it’s my cousin’s and it’s just gorgeous.  I want one that beautiful. Yes I do!  I’ve contacted the guy about his prices but I’m sure I can’t afford him.  Oh well, a girl can dream right?  By the way, her website features her jewelry and it is BEAUTIFUL! In Fact I’m going to be having a “virtual jewelry party” for Tonya Barlow Jewelry very soon so ya’ll don’t go to buying yet, save it for my party!

I’m starving folks and it’s a bare cupboard here.  I hate the end of the month, you’re out of money and out of groceries.  Hubby gets paid Friday. Hallelujah! Praise the LORD!

I’m a bit tired ya’ll so that’s all I have for you today. Lily is feeling a bit better.  She slept all night last night!  Again praise God!  She is sleeping in my lap right now… awww.

Baby Wearing Advice

My hubby, son, daughter and I are going on a “family vacation” just 2 weeks from today. My daughter loves to be close to momma and I love to be close to her so I thought, “hey, why not take some cues from some of you other mommas and wear Lily.” However, this will require a baby sling, pouch or carrier of some type. I have not a clue where to begin on my search and like I said I have only 2 weeks so I need it here ASAP. So all you natural, baby wearing mommas out there help a girl out and give me your tips, as well as links to where I can find what I need and fast! Ohhh, price is a catch too. It can’t be too pricey. I would say $40 or less. By the way, some FYI, Lily will be 6 months old by the time of our trip and she likes to sit up and look around. She hates laying back and not being able to see all the action, so take this into consideration when recommending something. Thanks so much!

Edited to add: Here is a sling I found that I like… what do you all think?

Yes, I missed a day

Booo hooooo I missed a day blogging in the 30 day challenge. I’m sooo sorry but my baby girl, Lily is sick. Yes, she’s only 5 months old and she’s already sick thanks to my son starting preschool and picking up all those nasty germs. I hate that! She had fever yesterday after church and all through the night keeping me up most of the night. YAWN! I’m taking her to the doctor in a few hours. I’m ready for my baby to feel better.

Also, if you haven’t entered my Back to School Contest you need to PRONTO! Contest ends on Friday, August 31. Thank you to all of you who have already entered!

I love to shop!

I don’t know about you girls, but I am a girl that loves to shop! And you know what my new favorite type of shopping is? ONLINE, of course. What could be better? You can shop in your PJs, laying in the bed or propped up on the couch with a big glass of sweet tea or an ice cold Coca Cola. You can shop without dragging the kids, the stroller, the diaper bags and your disgruntled hubby through every store in the mall to find that perfect new outfit. I’m telling you online shopping is the WAY to go!

VelvetI just recently found this new line of clothes that I must say are a must have. The line is called Velvet though the clothes aren’t truly velvet clothes. It’s actually just the name of the line. They are beautiful, look comfy and snazzy all at the same time. Why not try out this new line of velvet apparel? This line of velvet clothing has something for every time of day. A cute black dress for the evening date night with the hubby, and a basic white tee for hanging out, and even a line of great blouses for the work week. Even though I don’t have to dress up for my work week, I would love to have an item or two of this clothing line for those days I am out and about and want to look my best.

It’s not easy…

Oh, you know that song “It’s so easy to fall in love, it’s so easy to fall in love, it’s so easy, it’s so easy, it’s so eaaaaaaaaassssssssssy”. Well that may be true about love, but it’s not true about writing a speech. Even though I am a speaker, and I love it. It’s not often “easy” for me to write my speeches.

I am speaking at a church tomorrow night on two topics, “Self Confidence” and “Abstinence” . I’ll be speaking to a group of about 15 teen girls. This will be challenging as always, but fun as well. I do interactive events with the girls that includes a spa party tomorrow night. I’ve entitled tomorrow night’s even Passion for Purity PJ Party. The girls are suppose to come wearing their cutest PJs. It ought to be fun!

Just wanted to not get off on my 30 day challenge, so that’s my blog for today, gotta get back to speech writing.

Meme: Your Child’s Favorite Lullabies

Lullaby

Alice Seba at Because Mom Said So has tagged me to share my Child’s Favorite Lullabies

Here Are My Child’s Favorites:

Lullaby #1: My son likes to sing “Jesus Love Me”. We sing it together.

Lullaby #2: He also likes me husband’s version of “Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star” . It goes something like this, “Twinkle, twinkle lucky star can you send me love from where you are, can you make a rainbow shine that far, twinkle twinkle lucky star.” I think it’s an oldie.

Lullaby #3: He also likes what he calls “The Gator Song“. Another one of my husband’s renditions. I’m not sure I can even tell you the words.

And now, I’m tagging the following 4 people to join in on the fun:

Tagee #1 Jen at One Mom’s World

Tagee #2 Aurelia

Tagee #3 Heather Bixler

Tagee #4 Tricia

If you’ve been tagged, simply copy and paste the text below and fill in the blanks with your child’s favorite lullabies.
