Ok, I admit it, I”m a total NERD

Hey it’s ok, I can admit when I am something and a NERD I am.  Yes, I am living frugally in 08′, yes, I’m starting a debt reduction plan, and I plan to not get into any more debt, yes, I check my bank account more than once a day, and yes, I check my email about 50 times a day. So I must be a nerd right?  Oh well!

Here’s what one nerd read on another nerd’s website, I’m sure Dave Ramsey won’t mind me calling him a nerd.  See, I’m following his methods so he should be proud.  Several days ago I blogged about the government’s possible stimulus plan. I wanted your opinions, but unfortunately no one gave me any, but you can count on dear ole Dave to give you his…. Here’s a little of what he said and a link to the rest of the article.

“Most of you are jumping with joy that you’re probably going to be getting a big, fat check from the government. FREE MONEY, BABY!!!

Well, I’m not here to totally rain on your parade, but plain and simple, I’m not lovin’ this plan. This government plan to try to stimulate the economy and pull us away from a possible recession is actually straight-up socialism - just the opposite of capitalism! I don’t want my money to help you (especially if you haven’t paid federal income taxes) buy an iPhone or whatever else you have your eye set on.”

He also gave us some ideas for what he would do with the money including: pay off debt (which is my plan), invest it ( I would if I was out of deb), and finally have a little fun! Hey he’s not all bad.  :)  In fact, my new financial counselor and I just talked about this this week and she is Dave certified.  I was talking about the fact that I’d be getting a tax refund, we discussed what I should use the money for and she even said I should use a little of it to have a little fun.  My fun of choice:  my husband and I are going out with a few close friends to a pretty nice restaurant for Valentine’s Day.  I can’t wait!  Now who says getting out of debt, and being a nerd can’t be fun?

Wordless Wednesday: Cheeks

Do you toot your own horn?

Well, today you can.  I did, I joined in Mommycommunity’s new meme, Tuesday Toot and tooted my own horn over at my ministry blog.  Check it out!  Hey, a $10 McDonald’s gift card was up for grabs, who can resist that when you have a 4 year old who constantly wants chicken and fries and mom honestly could “use a break today!”

What’s your fetish?

It’s funny that saying that made me think of the old song, Conjunction junction what’s your function? Oh my! Anyway, I was over at my friend Latara’s blog reading and saw her admission to being obsessed with binders. And I have to admit I too have a fetish for binders. I’m trying to think, what else I have a fetish for collecting. Oh yes, notecards and thank you notes, stationary, scrapbooking supplies, I am sure I could come up with a few more things, but I think that’s enough.

bindersI just enjoy using these things and therefore I see no problem with it. No, I don’t spend too much money on them, in fact I often by all of the above when they are on clearance. But, you can bet if I see a binder, note cards, stationary or scrapbooking supplies in the clearance bin I am there!!!

What about you? What’s your fetish?

Making some new but frugal…

Today I was watching Paula Dean and she was cooking these HoecakesYes, they are hoecakes.  A very cheap, frugal, whatever you want to call it addition to any meal and the best part was they were EASY!  We had them with our dinner and they were pretty yummy. I enjoyed them.  You can find her recipe for them at Food Network.  I am a big fan of Paula Dean and her southern cooking since I am a southern gal myself.  Enjoy!

My Latest Wish

Every once in a while I get to wishing for something. Here is my latest wish. PortfolioIt is a red, leather business portfolio. I’d like to have one to use when I go out speaking. You see I currently have a red, leather Busy Woman’s Day Planner and a red leather like computer/briefcase bag. Since I’m a woman who likes to look put together I am wishing for this to complete the ensemble. For some reason I have failed to locate any leather-like versions of this online. This one is on E-bags.com and lists for $109. Not in my price range at all. So, I guess I’ll just keep right on wishing!

New Headshot

Ok ladies, I needed a new headshot and I am short on cash so I couldn’t hire a professional so I went to the next best thing, my brother. He’s pretty handy with a camera so here are the results from this morning. What do you think?

What are your thoughts?

The words “economic stimulus plan” what do they mean?  I was a bit confused at first but then pretty hopeful that we would receive it once I understood President Bush’s idea for giving all American middle class families, or families where each individual earned between $3000-75,000 adjusted gross income last year.  The plan would allow individuals to receive from $300-600 in tax rebates and couples to receive from $600-1200, those with children would also in addition receive $300 per child.

So, what do you think?  Do you think it will happen or never pass?
