Speaking Topics

To make each booking a truly engaging and inspiring experience, Alyssa has developed several general themes designed to spark the interest of the audience, taking into the account the special needs of young girls and teens within our modern society. Each of Beauty by Design’s speaking engagements is individualized with the input of the event coordinator as to the special needs of the potential audience for a truly unique experience with each and every performance.

Below you will find an overview of topics our ministry offers along with some of the themes Beauty by Design Ministries has created to express them effectively to today’s youth.

Note: For our Custom Party & Events Services please visit our Custom Events & Party Planning Page for further details.

General Topic Areas Covered

This list has been developed as a starting point for the speaking points that you may choose to have presented to your youth audience. Please feel free to ask about other areas that may suit the needs of your unique group.

Beauty

“Make Me Over”

Don’t you just sometimes wish for a Hollywood makeover?
God gives “heavenly makeovers” and you’ll experience one in this session where we talk about how you are “made in HIS image.”

“Being Set Apart” -

The “royal” treatment is just the beginning of this exciting event for mothers and daughters (age 12-18). Based on the biblical principles exemplified by Queen Esther, Beauty By Design Ministries will guide participants through spa-like pampering and interactive discussions on becoming set apart for God’s Kingdom.

Abstinence

“True Love Waits Heartbreaks Don’t” -

This is an essential event for all girls over twelve. This event drives home the importance and significance of the sexual experience that God created and intended and provides tools to deal with the pressures inherent in modern living. Through a gentle and loving presentation the girls are guided through the biblical purpose and place for sex and are encouraged to save the gift of innocence for marriage. Guests will develop a deeper understanding of God’s plans and His intention that sex be protected as a gift for within the bonds of holy matrimony. Modern societal pressures stretch the boundaries of sex, destroying the significance and stealing the gift of purity. Through this presentation girls are informed and guided into standing their ground and protecting their gift when faced with the pressure and opportunity to stumble.

Modesty

“Clothed in Christ”

“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all?”
“Those who reflect Christ from head to toe!”
We will learn why modesty is the best policy when it comes to fashion.

Etiquette

“Becoming a Proverbs 31 Lady” -

Return to an era of class and elegance by booking an always fashionable afternoon tea event. This classically themed option is an ideal choice for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Mothers join their young daughters (ages 8-18) for an afternoon tea event featuring a wealth of knowledge on etiquette from Beauty by Design Ministries. As the afternoon unfolds each participant will learn the proper etiquette techniques that every aspiring young lady should know through an interactive lecture and through the experience of the event itself. The afternoon will cover the complete application of etiquette in all situations from guest expectations to hostess duties including perfect table settings, table manners and dining etiquette, issuing invitations, returning RSVPs and thank you practices.

Prayer Journaling

“My Heart to His” -

Blessed though we are to be in the midst of the communication era, the advent of texting, chatting and blogging that have come with the Internet age have been steadily eroding one of the most powerful tools in a young girl’s relationship with the Lord, the prayer journal. This interactive presentation focuses on the priceless treasure that can be revealed through the act of recording dreams, hopes and prayers. Each participant will learn of the promises that God answers through prayer and how the process of journaling can create a special time of daily communication and communion with the Lord.

Time Management/Quiet Time

“Time Sweet Time”-

Between family, friends, school and sports the life of a modern teen can often spiral into a whirlwind of activity that leaves little time for the Lord. These special sessions combine instruction on the importance and significance of taking the time for God with proven techniques to help teens manage their often overwhelming scheduling issues. Participants will be introduced to personality based planning and learn how to use a planner to set goals and prioritize activities to allow time for all the important things in their life, including some Godly girl time!

About Me

From my Perspective

I wanted this to be fun, so I thought I’d give you the scoop on me before giving you the standard bio information, so here goes:

Alyssa Dees Avant: My daddy named me, Carrie Alyssa Dees. You pronounce my middle name, which is the name that I go by, “A-leee-sha” rather than how it looks. Do not worry everyone gets it wrong the first time. But, I’ve learned it’s just one of the things that makes me unique.

My Husband: My husband and I married when I was 19 and he was 25. He is a probation/parole officer for the State of Mississippi, who has supported me through 3 years of college and several years of seminary. He is my support in every crazy idea that I come up with, and trust me I come up with a few crazy ideas every now and again.

My Kids: I have two children, Baker my super active, curious 4 year old, who is never still and loves to be a “big helper”. Lily my precious baby girl, whose smile can light up any room and is growing up way too fast. Most say she’s getting out of the way, as Greg and I got a surprise this Thanksgiving when we found out we’re expecting baby #3 in July 2008.

My Ministry: I dreamed of creating a ministry to girls for a long time. God saw sufficient to make my dream come true in January 2005 and since then he has grown this venture much more than I could ever imagine. Beauty by Design Ministries (http://beautybydesignonline.com) is my way of serving God and others, outside the box as I like to call it. God has given me the ideas and the plans to make it one of a kind.

My Life: I spend most days, changing diapers, making lunch and supper, and writing, lots of writing as I earn the majority of my income as a writer for hire from home. I love Coco Cola Classic, blogging, and I look forward to my monthly TOMgirls (Together on Mission) meeting, which is a group of girls at my church that get together once a month for mission projects, Bible study, good food and girl time. I am an active member of my church, currently helping to lead Acteens and I feel truly blessed to be at the place I am in life.
