This is a new episode of the Overcoming Anxiety Through Faith Podcast.

Today we are talking about 5 things to pray about.

Do you struggle to know what to pray about?  I truly believe in the power of prayer and believe that you can pray about anything. The Bible tells us we are to “cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

The Lord truly wants us to bring our burdens and cares to him through prayer. I tend to be a worrier, often full of anxiety.  But, the Bible tells us,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

Sometimes, even if we are worrying we mistakenly believe that there are certain things that maybe we should not bother God with, but the opposite is true.

5 Things to Pray About

Here are 5 things to pray about:

1. Everyday life situations.

You can pray about your finances, your health, your kid’s grades, your teen’s peer pressure, your job. and your LIFE! God understands and He wants you to come to Him with all of it.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
1 John 5:14 (NIV)

2. For others.

Pray for others, intercession is a privilege and we should always intercede on the behalf of others whether they have asked us to or not, whether they are sick, in need or you just want to thank God for them.

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:14-16 (NIV)

3. The future.

Yes, it’s uncertain to us, but God knows all about it, praying for God’s will in our lives will help us to find the future that is best for us. The right path!

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

4. Thanksgivings.

We don’t want to just ASK God for things, we want to take time to THANK HIM for things as well. Thank God for the many blessings he has given you and your family!

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all of your wonderful deeds.”
Psalm 9:1 (NIV)

5. Your feelings.

God can handle it. Feel angry? PRAY, Hurt? PRAY, Guilty? PRAY. [clickToTweet tweet=”Prayer is always a good answer to how you are feeling.” quote=”Prayer is always a good answer to how you are feeling.” theme=”style1″]

“I say to God my Rock,
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
    oppressed by the enemy?”
 My bones suffer mortal agony
    as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.”
Psalm 42:9-11 (NIV)

The list of things that you can pray about is obviously not limited to this.  However, this will help you hopefully to understand that as Christians we can truly approach the throne of grace with any and every situation.

Thanks Alyssa! I really enjoyed all your points. It is easy (at least for me) to forget to pray for the everyday things, like health and my schedule. Thanks for a great reminder. I just found your site and it’s beautiful; I look forward to reading more in the future.
